This testing is mandatory unless you can provide documentation proving the stipple and drywall were installed post 1990. Buildings built prior to 1990: Ceiling stipple that has damage or cracking should be tested for asbestos. If the ceiling is free from damage, asbestos exposure is unlikely. You should not drill, cut, demolish or remove any ceiling or walls until they have been tested for asbestos. ​
